PHD's All New Leak Testers Ensure Actuator Reliability

Written by David Rowan | Jul 15, 2024 7:36:02 PM

NEFF Automation assisted PHD in the development of their all-new pneumatic leak testers. These new systems, designed and programmed by YRG, improve user experience and always ensure reliable pneumatic motion from PHD products, including cylinders, grippers, actuators, slides, and much more.  Discover how the companies' leak tester venture details this process and their relationship with NEFF Automation.

The Evolution of Testing Systems

Since the mid-70s, PHD Inc.'s leak test platform has been instrumental in ensuring product reliability. However, recent challenges with system failures and hardware availability prompted a reevaluation. Recognizing the need to evolve, PHD Inc. decided to upgrade their technology, focusing on hardware, software, data acquisition, and retention. This modernization effort aims to align with market demands and customer expectations.

Collaboration and Innovation

PHD Inc.’s collaboration with the YRG team was pivotal in this transformation. Over the first six months, they embarked on a discovery process, followed by conceptualization. Leveraging NEFF's products, PHD Inc. developed a new leak tester. This tester not only improved efficiency but also integrated advanced connectivity features, enabling precise tracking and data logging.

Enhanced Connectivity and Quality Control

The new tester enhances connectivity, starting with scanning work orders into a computer system. This data-driven approach allows process and quality engineers to identify trends and implement corrective actions. The tester’s ability to detect specific leak points and blow-by across the piston ensures comprehensive quality control. Visual indicators and detailed feedback on a digital interface guide operators through repair and rework, ensuring only top-quality products move forward.

Real-Time Feedback and Efficiency

Operators benefit from real-time feedback via visual indicators and digital interfaces, guiding them through repair and rework processes efficiently. The tester’s precise feedback mechanisms, including red LEDs and on-screen diagrams, pinpoint failure locations, streamlining the entire process from detection to correction.

Collaboration with NEFF

PHD Inc.'s partnership with NEFF extends beyond product development. They collaborate daily on customer activities, sales opportunities, and product sizing. This close relationship ensures PHD Inc. can continually offer value-added equipment and integrate NEFF's cutting-edge products into their solutions.
